Frequently asked questions

I’m renovating, can you work with my architect or builder?

Yes, I often work with clients and their contractors already doing work at a property and can guide them on where to build fences, gates, paved areas, decks etc  for greatest effect.  These elements are the framework of the outdoor spaces and once they are built it is unlikely they will be changed, so it’s important to get them right first time.

Will landscaping my section add value to my property?

Yes, it adds value by creating inviting spaces to live in and to view from within the home and the street. Landscaping often can add privacy where needed or open up view shafts where desired.  Most people can’t imagine what can be done in an outdoor space, however  when the hidden potential is realised,  value is added.

Is a landscaped garden easier to maintain?

Yes, often a well landscaped property if far easier to maintain. Mostly it’s the wild and difficult parts of the garden that cause the most maintenance and when these areas are redesigned to be more accessible, functional and visually pleasing they are much more easily maintained. Thoughtful planting selections and ground treatments can also reduce maintenance.

Do you consult on any sized garden area?

Yes, whether you have a small or large area I can help. I have a range of options to suit the different needs of clients and their budgets. I can work in stages, if that suits your needs.

How can lifestyle options be added to my property?

Create a space to entertain in or a quite private space to relax, a zone to excise in or grow your own vegetables.  Add a pool or spa, an area for pets – the list goes on. I can work with you to create spaces for lifestyle living.

Can the design be done in stages as I can afford it?

Yes, especially when you are DIYing. I can advise you on what areas are best done first and how best to work your way through your project.

I’m building a new home. At what stage should I engage with a landscape designer?

As soon as possible! The spaces around a building all interact, with the building and with each other, so working out zones and connections early on, when changes can be adopted, will create the best outcomes for the property and add the most value.

Can you incorporate my existing garden to into a fresh design?

Yes, whether you have just a handful of trees or an overgrown garden, I will look at an overall vision for the space. I would incorporate established planting that can pruned, shaped and reconfigured to be in keeping with a fresh concept for the space.

I want to DIY myself, how can you help me?

Yes, I work with a lot’s of DIYers. I can provide guidance at a level to suit your budget. Professional design advice enhances the outcome of your hard work and maximises the value added.

How can you help me if I’m selling?

I can give advice on what plants to prune and shape, what to remove and what plants / colour to add. I can recommend ways to “outdoor stage” your space, and suggest what’s worth spending money on, and what to hold back from spending on, to maximise your investment. I can provide a consultation to give you suggestions for a “mini makeover” or I can prepare a DIY Master Plan for a more extensive revamp.

I want it all done for me, how can you help me?

Firstly, I can complete a design to the level you require. Then I’m available to inspect the work of your contractor, answer questions, and provide a completion report.

Should I get my garden maintained regularly?

Regular maintenance will keep your garden healthy and beautiful, and encourage it to develop attractively. It’s beneficial to get a professional team in once or twice a year to do the harder pruning and shaping, check the health of the plants and offer advice.  Then you can do the lighter maintenance in between, or have regular professional maintenance throughout the year if you prefer.
